Visit Tehran Bazaar When Your Visit Iran
Tehran bazaar has its own place in history. Being located in the capital of Iran, it was not a just a mere marketplace, but a major base for many guest houses and mosques. Besides the real traders, it was also a meeting place for financiers and bankers.
When you visit Tehran, you will be impressed by the way the bazaar has been divided into passages, with each passage showcasing different kinds of goods like carpets, copper items, spices and priceless metals. Many other regular items are also sold now by the smaller traders. In keeping with the times, contemporary goods have been added to the market.
History of Tehran Bazaar
Located in the southern part of the city, Tehran bazaar has passages which stretch for as long as 10 km in distance. Accordingly, there are many entrance points, the major ones of which are kept locked at night. The roots of the market can be traced to a long time back although the bazaar activities date back to the nineteenth century.
Hints of the development of the market began in 4000 BC but it came into full fledged existence slowly across the centuries with the rapid growth of trade. There is proof of the market flourishing during the Safavid rule, as you will come to know when you visit Iran.
Renovations Made at Tehran Bazaar
A visit to the Iranian capital city will help you understand that there have been many recent additions to the bazaar in recent times. A closer look at the buildings shows that the oldest of them was constructed some 400 years ago. Many of the buildings have been rebuilt in the last few years.
Tehran Bazaar started making a real impression under Reza Shah with a few areas disappearing and new ones being constructed. The dissimilarity in the architectural styles of the buildings shows their being constructed in different times under different rulers. Some of the later constructions were not very eye catching and these were beautified later in the 20th century with decorative brickwork and plaster molding.
Exciting Market
Even today, Tehran bazaar is still a hub for buying and selling of traditional goods. Jewelry and watches can be found in plenty here and tourists throng to this market when they visit Tehran. Haggling with the sellers is common here and most of the activity can be observed at midday and in the early evening.
