college dilemma please help?
ok currently i am going to one of the top universities in the country, im going for theatre and psychology. with the way the economy is going i am very stressed out about the high cost of tuition there. I am thinking of auditioning for the musical theatre department at UNC (northern co.) and if i get in i will transfer there. can i have your opinions on this issue please? i really love my school but tuition is just so expensive and i do want to do musical theatre in my life (my goal is broadway hopefully) opinions please!
i understand your issues in trying to decide what you want to do with your education. there are a few options that you could look at, and here are a couple.
1. you continue on with your education at your current school and deal with the pinch in tuition. no one said you had to attend the college to be in the production. from my theatre years, the auditions were open auditions, and anyone could attend. of course, you maybe more likely to be cast in the part if you are current student at that university.
2. you could follow your dreams (and it sounds as though theatre is a passion of yours) and be happy.
the main thing to remember is that you should be happy in anything you do. theatre is a taxing yet rewarding art. you could live in poverty because of it (the term starving artist rings true) or you could be one of the lucky ones and get success out of it. i can tell you that i had many learning experiences from being a theatre major that i would never trade away. i have been out of college for 7 going on 8 years now. unfortunately, i am not doing much with my degree. my life took a different path of marriage and family, and that’s ok. however, my theatre degree has been a great stepping stone to multiple ops. i am currently back in school for my masters, but it’s in business in human resource. theatre and music helped educate me in being more cultured, and i am thankful for that. again, i think you should do what makes you happy. it will be the best choice you will ever make.
you can have the best paying job in the world, and it would mean nothing to you if you weren’t happy.
